HN--Town location

Hi Joel-- Yes, I believe you found the correct Frederick Kuhlen, Jr., in the
WWI registration card information (funny, I could not find it in Ancestry
although I found it for WWII). His father was a knitter, which occupation
continued to my grandfather who came from Germany to learn (the new machines in
NYC I believe) and met my grandmother who they had stowed away (although I also
have heard her referred to as "bonded servant".

I am very surprised to learn that he was born in Kopenhagen, Denmark. The
mystery continues....

Thanks to you and the others on the list who responded with ideas.

I wonder what other port they might have come through if not New York? Are
there any other sites on the web to look for these records? I still am
confused by the draft card for WWII stating Borreubunch, Germany as his birth
place on May 7, 1891. Where could that be? Maybe a place in Denmark?

Thanks again,

Claire

Claire,

I've found a possibility for you, not an exact match, but close.

30 Jun 1894, Ship Virginia

Kohler, Fredr., age 31 (or about 1863), nativity Norway (with ditto
marks, others on ship are from Denmark), laborer
Kohler, Clara, age 29 (or about 1865), nativity same as above
Kohler, Fredrick, age 11 months (or about 1892), nativity same as above

They embarked at Christiansand with a destination of New York.

I'll keep looking.

Joel
