In vergangenen Jahren war ich in der Lage (mit viel Hilfe von Euch) meine
"Folkers" zu er-
forschen: etwa 6 hier in Kanada und auch welche in Deutschland als ich dort
im Militair gela-
gert war. Auch habe ichjede Menge Folkers im Amsterdam Telefonbuch gefimden.
Als ich wieder heim kam, habe ich den ersten Kontakt mit meinem
Ueber-Uebergrossvater's
Bruder's Zweig in Frankfort, Illinois gemacht.

Viele Jahre sind seitdem vergangen (auch die noetigen Kilometer gefahren).
Aberjetzt habe ich
die meisten Grundunteriagen, wie Geburtsschein, Stambuch und Todeserklaerung
ausfindig ge-
macht. Diese Information vom Frank WC Folkers fehit mir noch. Er wohnte urn
1910 herum
in Minneapolis/St. Paul.

nach gesucht
hatte: das ist: Wie haben unsere Vorahnen gelebt; Was haben sie durchstehen

waren diese Zeiten?? Die Saxon Chronicles schliessen urn die Zeit herum als
meine Folkers
nach Amerika ausgewandert sind. Die ganze Geschichte ueberspannt etwa 450
Jahre.
Die Januar 2009 Ausgabe der OSGA enthaellt Artikel die erklaeren wie es den
ersten Auswan-
derem ergangen hat: Das Ueberqueren des grossen Atlantiks und das Einbuergem

Wie waere es wenn wir alles ein wenig mehr ausbreiten? Etwas mehr
ausgiebiger als die B/M/D
Bescheine die wir bereits haben.
Meine Folkersahnen werden schon im Jahre 1720 in "Die Familien der
Kirchengemeinde Dyk-
hausen-Neustadtgodens Ostfrieslands Ortssippenbuecher" genannt. Moegliche
verwandte Ahnen
werden sogar schon im Jahre 1620 gemeldet.
Nachforschungen der Hanseatischen Liga ergaben, dass vor Jahrhunderte diese
Folkers zwei
verschiedene Gruppen Piraten aus der Wilhelmshafen Gegend vertrieben haben.
Mein aeltester Ahne, Franss Theilen Folkers, war ein Hausmann in Kirchspiel
urn ca. 1765. Die
zwei naechsten sind Peter und Franz Theilen, Kaufmaenner in Neustadt urn ca.
1789. Moegh-
cher Weise waren sie "verbesserte" Piraten (laechein) und widmenten sich nun
dem Handel. Wie
denken Sie darueber? Wie koennte man irgendwelche Dokumente, Fotos oder
andere Lebens^-
zeichen ausfindig machen? Wo koennte man erfahren wie und wo sie gelebt und
gewohnt haben.
Wir wissenja das Gebaeude sehr alt und bewohnbar sein koennen. Vielleicht
sind da Unterlagen
oder Beweise dass unsere Ahnen dort gelebt haben vor handen? Wie koennte man
das alles er-
forschen und ausfindig machen? Haben Sie irgendwelche Ideen scheme?

Over the years I have, (with a lot of help from many of you) been able to
trace my Folkers from approx. 6 ea here in Canada to some I found on my
tour of duty in Germany, then a boat load full in the Amsterdam telephone
directory.
On return to Canada my first contact occurred with my GGGrandfathers
Brother's branch in Frankfort, Illinois.
Many years and miles have passed until now I have all the bare bone i/e
Birth/Marriage/Death, with the exception of one Frank WC Folkers last known
to be in Minneapolis/St Paul about 1910.
OGSA OSTFRIESEN at rootsweb.com introduced me to The Saxon Chronicle three
volumes by Jane Swan and this gave me what I have long sought, and that is,
what did our ancestors endure during their life times? What where those
times like ? The Saxon chronicles end just about the time that my Folkers
came to America, having started approx. 450 AD.
Now the OGSA's January issue of 2009 has articles that show and explain
what it was like for those ancestors to cross the vast Atlantic to an
entirely new way of life in our North America.

So how could I ask for more, welllll !
How about we consider putting some flesh on the bones of the B/M/D records
we have ?
My Folkers go back in the Die Familien der Kirchengemeinde
Dykhausen-Neustadtgodens Ostfrieslands Ortssippenbucher to an Oldest
confirmed relative in 1720, but other possibly related Folkers to 1620.
Research into the Hanseatic League mariners indicate that they drove two
different groups of pirates out of the Wilhelmshaven area centuries before.
My eldest, Franss Theilen Folkers was a Haussmann in Kirchspiel approx.
1765, the next two Peter and Franz Theilen were Kaufmman in Neustadt
starting approx.1789.
Unless they were reformed pirates, <smile> presumable they were moving
towards commerce, so what are your thoughts on how to find some documents,
pictures or tokens of their existence?
Are there records of where they might have lived? As we know buildings can
be very old and still habitable now. Are there records of where they might
have worked or played? And how would one search them out ?
Any and all suggestions welcome!
