The Second Latern Council of 1215 established
Confirmation as one of the seven sacraments of the
Roman Catholic Church. It had been in existence in
various forms since the third century. Marriage also
existed before marriage records were kept...In many
areas of Hannover, parish records for common people
(baptisms, marriages, deaths) were not kept until the
early 18th century. Absence of evidence is not
evidence of absence.
