Historical Facts on your website

Hello,
I happened to chance on your website which includes information about my mother's family. My aunt, Melanie Bey Aalders, was not born in Odessa. I believe she was born in Canada after they emigrated--or she could have been born while they were emigrating. It's all rather sketchy, given the difference in calendars, and the fact that they left Canada after a few years and came to the U.S. They first entered the U.S. at Buffalo, NY, then went to Baltimore, MD, then to NJ, and then to NYC where my grandfather died. Dolly Babey stayed in Canada, however, and raised her children there.

Also, aunt Melanie and Louis only had 2 children: my cousins, Melanie and Diane. The son you mention is, I believe, the son of Louis's sister, Adele. Or, it could be uncle Louis's brother, who died at an early age.

Hope this info helps. It was interesting reading the reasons for the Ukrainian immigration to North America. I, for one, was not really aware of their reasons for leaving, as my understanding was that my grandfather had a decent farm there. I thought the reasons for leaving were political ... /gerry mathews
