Bernard Hilgefort
Bernard Hilgefort one of the better known German farmers of this community,
died Sunday noon at about 12:40. He began complaining about two weeks ago
having been overcome by the heat but only took to his bed a week ago, suffering
with paralysis of which he e died.
Bernard Hilgefort, was born April 23, 1833, in Dinklage, province of
Oldenburg, Germany. After attending the schools in his native town, he went to
Fechta,[sic. it should be Vechta.] where he attended a University, from which he
graduated. Coming home he assisted his father on the farm, until he was
married in 1865, when he went into the grocery and saloon business. To this
union were born six children, Henry, Maggie Huffman, George, Ida Langhorst, Rosa
Fuesting, dead, and Theodore. He and his family came to America in the
summer of 1882, settling on a farm about 2 miles northwest, of town. His first
wife died Jan. 1982. On Feb 3,1898 he was married to Mrs Heeman in Chicago.
He leaves to mourn their loss, a Loving widow, devoted children, step
children and grand children and a host of friends. The funeral was held Tuesday
morning from the Catholic church here, the interment being in the cemetery
here. A large number of friends besides the relatives accompanied the remains
in their last resting place.
