After more research I am sure that my Wendt ancestors came from the Kingdom
of Hannover but don't know the name of the town. They came to America in the
1850's and settled first near Wheeling, VA (now West Virginia). Later moved to
near Cameron, WV and descendents stayed in that area except for a couple. I
have run into a stone wall in trying to trace them in Germany. Names of the
ones that came to America were: Christina (she was the mother) and her sons:
August, Henry, Ernest, Gutliep, and Frederick. The father's name was Henry but
he never came to America. My grandfather was August and he married Louisa
Tappe and to the best of what I can learn she came from the deucy of
Braunschweig. Also, I have had no luck in tracingher family in Germany. If you have any
suggestions they would be highly appreciated.
Here is Wendts that applied for immigration in Hanover Statsarchives.
