I'm sure, it is a place in Germany. The location could be a misspelling. If
it is Niederaula (or Nieder-Aula, instead of Neides, Aula) it is a place in
Germany, in the federal state Hessen. Here, it is in the county Hersfeld. In
the 19th century it belonged to Kurhessen, in former times it was the
Landgrafschaft Hessen.
Perhaps another experienced member of this list is able to help Murray in
his further searches, as I assume, he is on the right path now.
Some of the names you mention, Murray, are certainly also changed, as I
don't believe there was a SHOEMAKER in Hessen - perhaps you have to look for
SCHUMACHER.
