On 6 January 1719 in the Westfeld parish
Wrisbergholzen Anna Doreathe Rasch was married 'im
Kranze". I have been told this means married in a
girdle of flowers. This symbolized that she was
unmarried but not a virgin. Could anyone give me more
information about this practice? Madelin Page
You are right, "im Kranze" means the bride was supposed to be a virgin and had the right to wear a girdle. In some regions priests also wrote "in der Muetze", the bride wearing a bonnet. In this way he expressed his disgust if the bride was pregnant .
