Help with a brick wall

Hi Everyone,

I really hit a brick wall here, I found my gggrandfather name and that is about it, i do have his some info but i was wondering if anyone can help me find any information on him and my gggrandma. Here is the information that i have.

Philip Seemann his wife Margaretha Leeseberg
Born about 1807 Born 1805
Think in Hannover, Germany Hannover, Germany
Died in 1880 Died in 1870-1880
Cook County, Ill Was told she died in Germany but I
I cant find a burial stone so? proof she came over to the USA
but no idea where or really when
I Looked at the census and find nothing on Margaretha after 1870. But i was really looking for information about them in Germany. Or i should say any new information is more than welcome.

I thank everyone for reading this and helping in advanced. If you would like to email personal you may do so too make sure you put Seemann in the subject line here is my email address jackie_44_2000@yahoo.com

May you find the joy and peace you long for

Hi Jackie,
you sent this to several mailing lists, why not put it into the new forum

http://www.germanyroots.com/phpBB3/

too. Breathe a bit of life into it there. As it is so new an answer might take a while yet, but
you never know, it may be just the right spot.

Cheers

First Jackie, do not put information in columns in an email. They do not
copy well in your quoted message

Start with what you know and work back You have or think that Philip
Seeman lived in cook county and died there

Have you looked at the the IL Death index at

I do not find a Philip Seeman in IL in the 1880 Census on FS. If
you have not found him there either, then he probably died before 1 Jun
1880. However he should be in the 1880 Mortality Index.

You were given some info back in2003:

Found some info on Phillip Seeman in the Immanuel Lutheran (Richton
Park, Cook Co.) church records. He was born on March 25, 1807 and
died Aug. 31, 1881. Hope this helps. Missy

have you followed up on this and confirmed that he is your ggf?

Was he ever naturalized?

have you looked for him on the new Family Search site:

his wife Margaretha Leeseberg Born 1805 Hannover, Germany

If you found Margarethe Lehman Seeman in the 1870 IL Census she could
not have died in Germany

was really looking for information about them in Germany. Or i should
say any new information is more than welcome.

If this couple were in Cook County by 1870, you will have to look in the
PALs for New Orleans, Philadelphia, Montreal Quebec as well as New York.

You need to do a lot more searching in the USA before trying to find them in Germany.

I'd first obtain a death certificate from Cook County which should give you the place of burial. Then contact the cemetery to see who purchased the lot, obtain a list of interments, who is allowed to be there (an Affidavit of Heirship) and when the last burial was. You can also see if the cemetery offers a photo shoot of the tombstones if you do not live nearby. Good luck!
