Help needed

Hello,
I'm trying to find information on a village or place in Germany called Langeshwartz that was the birthplace of Heinrich Wilhelm Huffmann or Hoffman in March 1869. He emigrated with his parents in 1884 to Burlington Iowa in the USA.

Hello Richard,
you are looking in the wrong state, Langenschwarz/Burghaun District is
located in Hesse.

Hi Ursla,
Many thanks for your help. Wonder if there is a Genealogy board in that region of Hesse that I might post my search on.
                                                                                                                                            Regards,

There is an English one on Rootsweb and a German language only one on
Genealogy.net.

Dick,
Since you know where your ancestors came from, why waste time on a
genealogy board and not go directly to the source. You can order the
"Zivilstandsregister 1771-1875" (civil registry) from the Family History
Center. Langenschwarz is just a small town in Hessen-Nassau. Go to
familysearch.org, click on 'Library Catalog', then 'Place Name', then type
in 'Langenschwarz' (only, nothing else)and you should see the topic
Germany, Preussen, Hessen-Nassau, Langenschwarz - Civil Registration.

The problem with genealogy boards is that everybody on the board (mostly
Americans) is searching for someone themselves. Few Germans, that could be
of help, read these boards because they are all in English.

Hello Richard,

I have a very detailed Autoatlas of Germany. I cannot find the town as
you have it listed. Perhaps it is spelled wrong. There is a town called
Langenschwarz in Hessen.

The LDS have film of that town:
   Zivilstandsregister, 1771-1875 Langenschwarz (Hessen-Nassau). Standesamt

There could be other spellings of the city. I would not want to mislead
you. Good luck!
