HARTWIG, SCHROEDER and HELBIG

Good evening Listers

I am new to this list - and sadly can't speak German!

I have HARTWIG and SCHROEDER from Blumberg in Prussia in the first half of
the
1800's and HELBIG from somewhere in Germany, possibly about the same time
or
perhaps later. All families emigrated to South Africa - the Hartwig and
Schroeder
members in June 1860 aboard the "Johann Cesar".

Perhaps some clues as to which part of Prussia they came from (and why
they left) is in
their names? Any suggestions as to how I can go back in the lines would
be greatly
appreciated.

can't help you with your names. The Helbig caught my attention. I went to boarding school in Namibia, South West Africa at the time. I went to school with some Halbig children, a is a Umlaut. Ines

help my research in South Africa too. Your email much appreciated!

        I have Relatives by the name of Hartwig near Ottawa, Canada. Is
there any connection to your family?

Sorry Ray - I don't think so, at this stage. I only know of S African Hartwig's.
