Hi,I have been unable to find any record of my Hartmann family entering
the U.S. On census records the date varies from 1868 to 1875. Any help to find
emigration/immigration records would be appreciated. It is possible that they
did not all come at the same time. By the way the family were
musicians.Friedrich/Fredrick Hartmann, born c. 1828

Many Germans went through Baltimore and New Orleans .... are you checking records other than New York? If they settled in the Midwest they might well have come in through Canada. They may also have left from Antwerp, Rotterdam, LeHarve, etc. Many Germans also took small ships over to England and crossed on the English liners of the day. Especially if they were musicians who traveled and they had a gig in another country that meshed well and paid for part of the trip ... or a gig on the liner coming over.
Hi Bobbi,
Do you know what part of Germany the Hartman family came from? There
are many Hartmanns listed in the emigration archives, but it is difficult to
know which names are the ones you are looking for. Do the census records
list something other than just Germany?
