Hartje family, 1836

2 July, 2006

Henry and Elisabeth Hartje lived in Hannover with their children. Henry served as a soldier in one of the hired armies and it is rumoured that he was at Waterloo. He died in 1836 but not as the result of war. Elizabeth took her children (Charles b1818; Caroline b1824; Augustus b1825 (my great-great grandfather); Henry b1832; Hannah b1822 and William b1836) and in 1836 she immigrated to America.

I would like to know the family history in Germany. Can anyone point me in the right direction for locating the burial sight of my great-great-great grandfather Henry Hartje?
Is there a way to acess records back this far in English?

Is there a geneaological society with a listing of reputable researchers who might be able to assist me in my search?

Thank you for any assistance you may be able to give. Jeanie Harding

This may be a hint: In the Garnison-Kirchenbuch Hannover (Churchbook of the Hanover garrison) 1816 - 1867, the following person is listed:
Hartje, Heinrich Ernst Konrad Christoph, Infanterist, Leib-Regiment, * Laatzen, Amt Hannover, (1830); + GH [= garrison hospital (?)] 11.04. (April) 1852 (Brustentzndung = inflammation of breast)
So further research in the Laatzen protestant churchbook may be worthwhile.
A reputable researcher is Wolfgang EWIG, Barsinghausen, address through his website.

Burial sites in Germany are usually turned
over and resold after about 60 years. It's
doubtful you could find anything after so long.
