Hanover

I just received a marriage certificate for my g grandparents today and on it had where the place of birth was. I am trying to read it and it looks to be Lahmstedt, Hanover. Is there such a place and where is it. This time period would be in the early 1800's. My g grandparents were Lewis Ohlrogge and Fredericke Nielson. Can anyone help me?

Go to: JewishGen Gazetteer a town search
website. There is a LAMSTEDT in Niedersachsen which was part of Hannover
in the days of your grandparents. Then go to the German telephone book ( in
English) :
http://www.teleauskunft.de/NSAPI/Anfrage?AKTION=zeZentraleEingang&SPRACHE=EN
&SESSIONID=04809a2d523b38e62b00032db5&BUAB=BUNDESWEIT and Use a copy & paste
if you are unable to click on. Do a search for Ohlrogge in
Lamstedt.....there are five listings for that surname in that town. Marion

Lammersfehn is a bit far off but it is Hanover. Can't find anything
fitting with *stedt behind it.

Ah, there it is: Lamstedt. In 1913 it had a pop. of 1364. Look for
Stade, Neuhaus, Basbeck-Osten, Hechthausen.

Early on several Bauerschaften belonged to it (1913 pop.): An der
Quage (47), Hollener Schiffstelle (3), Im Ehlande (14), Köven (115),
Vor dem Moor (26).

Dear Leslie,

I have the Lamstedt records on permanent loan at my local Family History
Center and will be going there tomorrow morning. I would gladly do a lookup
for you if I knew the year of your ancestor's marriage. I might try anyway.
I will check my e-mails tomorrow morning before I go in case you get my
e-mail tonight.

Let's not use "Hanover" as the subject on the Hanover list! For heavens
sake, can't we be a little more descriptive and consider those who need to
read through subjects quickly without having to open every message and read
to see if it concerns him or her? Thanks for good, descriptive subjects!
