Lisa, what I posted and what showed is different. When I get a family file like that there I click on the submission number. that gives me the search form and then I write in Niemeyer or Kark. then I get the names. Then you can check each one out. I was trying to see if you had seen that way to learn more. that person puts everyone of that county there. that is why she takes an interest. She might tell you that the german settlers settled in the eastern part. such as St. Francis and Bishop. she might tell you as you already know that a group of them planed out the area of teutopolis from Cincinatti ohio. those who were going saved ten dollars at a time to contibute to the fund. then again she may not. She onlly had a little more info for me.
I suppose you have read the books about this township and county. I have heritage quest and so there fore i searched the book and found peters at the methodist church. I thought you said that your Nieman was catholic so I looked for you. I saw only one name and I don't believe it was the right area. the name I saw was Theodore Nieman. I did find a John Zark.
It did tell where some of them were from. something was said about many germans being from Westphalia. some from Oldenburg . And other locations. I suppose one would have to research in ohio......
There was a roman catholic church established in early years and what ws built 1850 still in use today.Dedicated to St. Peter. Just a little south of Teutopolis. There was a man who went to rome to try and get priests for their church. That is how the Franciscans got started there.
At st. Francisis the church If I recall correctly was St. Rose of Lima [?] Roman Catholic church at Montrose.
Congreagation and church at Montrose in 1879. I guess there is a Seminary and do something with St Joseph college.
did you say something about Breese and clinton co. Illinois. I can try and look up at heritage quest a book from there. Did they move after 1900. Or come from there. I think Zark was there first??[ One has to browse quickly if you put one says effinghame and everything is effingham and not what you ask for..... you have to search each one to see for sure]
Her research brings in elite germans. It looked like dukes or something mentioned in the long list, when I first looked a few years back. i am intersted in the name Loy now. My Royers [Rogers]and Barcum. Some of these going to an area mentioned in the movie Joan of Arc -Rheim France.[ If I recall right].
Do you have the address for morman church. google family search.org and you will get it. There were about 5 or more Niemeyer names. I did not check zark.
Hope that helps a bit. the books are very interesting about early days. farmers picked timber areas first. So later settlers got the plains....
