Hannover Borders

Hello Listers,

On the British Census my gt.grandfather Hermann FLEMME born 1855, always
stated he was from Hannover. I now know he lived with his parents Heinrich
Flemme and Sophia (NOB ? ) in AUSTRIA until his mother died. When times grew
hard the family arranged for 14 year old Hermann and his 12 year old cousin
Wilhelmina Flemme to leave for a new life in England with Mina's uncle
Conrad (Konrad) Ehlers, a musician, who had already settled there.

Was part of Austria ever in the Kingdom of Hannover and am I on the correct
list for this district?

Somewhere in the possible clues of the origins of the Flemme family is
PNKO, (which I think is a surname), but what is SLA? Is it a complete
word or the beginning of a word?
An elderly person also tried to explain something to me - does this make any
sense to anyone L N P N D S ?

Regards
Rena in England

Hi Rena,

If you run a search on the LDS website (www.familysearch.org), you
will see that Penko is obviously a surname, particularly in eastern Europe.
There are some listings of the Penko name in Austria. From a Google search,
it is obvious it could also be a given name.

In a search on the LDS site, there are two people in Rheinland, Germany
listed with the surname of Osla. Also names in Guatemala.
