Hi,
I saw the post concerning this census. Is it available anywhere online? I'm searching for Frederick Edler, a shoemaker from Hannover. He was born c.1790. His son Frederick was in England in 1851 but I'd like to find his parents in Germany.Any help much appreciated.
This census of the Kingdom of Hannover was taken on December 1852
(not 1851). And there were other detailed census surveys on December
3, 1855, 1858, 1861 and 1864.
The orginal lists of these census are not completely preserved and
there was no name index for any of these census lists until 2002. The
orginal lists are preserved in a great number of different state, regional
and city archives.
The 1852 census edition project hads the goal to transcribe and publish
this census step by step, county by county (Amt by Amt). The name
indexes for each county (Amt) will be online and there will be a general
name index online, but the names and data itself will only be available
by buying the census booklets or by a census data request. This is not
a project which "earns" any big money, but the booklets and the fees for
the data requests only bring in a bit of money, a certain part of the
private money which has been invested in this ambitious project.
