Hanfland family

Hello...

I am looking for information on my family. My great-great grandfather, John (or Johann) Hanfland (b. 1796 in Germany) came to Illinois in 1866 with his son Frederick Hanfland (b. 1826 in Hallenberg) and his wife, Elizabeth Swartz (b.1837) and their infant son, Philip (b.1865 in Hallenberg). My grandfather, Peter was born in Illinois in 1870.

I do not know who John's wife was...or if he had brothers & sisters or if Frederick had brothers and sisters. Any information on the Hanfland family would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Susan (Hanfland) Baugher

Hallo Susan,

my english is not very well and I fear, that I can not help you. But I
must ask yo something.

There is narrative tradition in our family, that one of my ancestors has
immigrated to the US.

The name of this woman should be:

Maria Anna HSTER

She was married with a man, whose last name was HANFLAND. His place of
birth is in the Hochsauerland in a greater area round Hallenberg;
possibly Assinghausen, Wiemeringhausen, Wulmeringhausen and so on. His
first name is unknown.

When they went to the U.S. they took place in Illinois.

I Have found Maria Anna HSTER born in Wildshausen Nov 16 1849. There
is no advice about her marriage in the chuch books of Rumbeck and also
no advice about her early death in the late 19th century.

Have you ever heard of a couple HANFLAND-HSTER ?

I thank yo for each kind of help you can give
many greetings

Christoph ( Hster )

P.S.: Ist hier vielleicht jemand in der Lage, mein furchtbares
englisches Kauderwelsch in ein vernnftiges Englisch zu bersetzen ? Da
wre ich wirklich unheimlich dankbar fr.

Greetings Christoph,

Your English is very-very good. Certainly much better than my German would be. I'm sorry I can't respond to you in your own language.
Try this site to help with translating...English to German, etc...

It was a pleasure hearing from you. I'm afraid I have no information on your ancestor, Maria Anna Huster who married a Hanfland.
And no, I've never heard of the couple, Hanfland-Huster. There are very few Hanfland's here in Illinois...I am directly related to them all.
I am researching a few other families in the States and I will be sure to let you know if I run across this name in my quest for my ancestors.

Thank you again for your contact.

Be well in Germany.

Kindest regards,
Susan (Hanfland) Baugher

Hallo Susan,

many thanks for your compliment about my englisch and for your advice on
www.babelfish.altavista.com. I will try out it soon when it is
necessary. Im must read the description before.

Hallenberg is a town in the Sauerland. Have yo tried out this
mailing-list?

http://list.genealogy.net/mailman/listinfo/sauerland-l

Many people who are not members at the Westfalen-List read and write
Mails on the Sauerland-List. Yo could have success with your question
there. Im ready to send your Mail because of the Hanfland family to the
Sauerland-List if you want so.

I would very enjoy if you would find a link between the Hanfland and the
Hster family in Illinois.

Thank you very much for your offer to hold contact with me in this case.

with the best wishes

many greetings from the Sauerland

Christoph ( Hster )

Hi Christoph,

Nice hearing from you...and THANK YOU so much for the information on the Sauerland-List. This is all new to me...and I'm not
sure what I'm doing. I will definitely check out the Sauerland-List. Yes, please send my mail on to the list.

I really need to find a good map of Germany and do a little research as to where Hallenberg is located. I have been to the live
web cam of Hallenberg on the internet and it looks like a lovely town...I can't imagine my ancestors leaving it all behind to come to America. That had to be a very scary thing for them to do...I don't know if I would have the courage.

I have copied your original e-mail, regarding the Huster/Hanfland relationship and will be sure to contact you if I discover any
information.

Stay well.

Kindest regards,
Susan (Hanfland) Baugher
