Häuslinge?

I recently learned that a census was taken of the Kingdom of Hanover in 1852. It is described as follows:
"All inhabitants of all towns and villages of the Kingdom of Hanover are listed in the original lists of this census
including wives, children, maids, farmhands, 'Häuslinge' and even prisoners." www.edition-hist.de

Can anyone tell me what is meant by "Häuslinge"?

Thank you, Myra

A Häusling or Häusler is a Person who has a small farm. Sometimes he owns it, sometimes he pays rent for it. It is not sufficient to make a living. He had to have some other source of income. Sometimes farmers had Häuslinge as cheap farm workers. They did not have to care for them, no food and lodging required.
