did you already take a look at the death certificate of your great grandmother? On this certificate you find at least the information if he was still alive or already dead when your great grandmother died. Maybe there are additional information on the certificate.
Please be aware that in Germany there are serveral towns named "Mhlheim".
BTW, "Danzig" is "Gdansk" today in Poland not "Gdynia". The German name for "Gdynia" is "Gdingen".
if you only have an old obituary you should get a death certificate from the civil registration office or from the town's archive, otherwise you might miss important information.
Does the obituary show any more information about the death place? "Mhlheim" could be "Mhlheim an der Ruhr" or "Mhlheim am Main" or others. Please check here:
Hallo and sorry, "Mülheim an der Ruhr" is spelled with one "h" only.
However, Google-Maps will easily inform you on the various other places that might be contacted.
Regards Ernst
Thanks for the advice, we have his wife's obituary which says that she is a
widow at the time of her death, as far as we can tell they would have been
living in Mühlheim am mein? In their later years.
So looks like our next task is to find the Standesamt covering that area and
write to them for information.

On this page (only in German) you find two e-mail addresses which you can contact. There you can ask for a death certificate ("Sterbeurkunde"). It might happen that the death certificates are available in an archive, but the "Standesamt" will tell you which archive you then have to contact.
Furthermore, you should be aware of any costs that might apply. Usually about 8 Euro for the certificate plus s/h and maybe additional costs for searching.
If you still have problems with this, you can contact me directly.
Unless you know for sure, which Muehlheim is meant, please keep in mind that there is a number of Muehlheims/Muellheims/Muelheims in Germany and Austria:
