Google Translate

Hello Monika,

by all means NO - please do yourself and others a great favor and don't recommend or even think about mentioning Babelfish. That's a so-called "online translator" I wouldn't even recommend to my worst enemy.

Hello Keith,

I greatly honor your expertise when it comes to genealogical research in Germany. As to your question regarding available "online translators" - IF you want/need to use one, go with Google.

However, please always keep in mind (and I know you already do) that regardless which of these you're using, they will never do more than providing an overall gist of any German text. This is due to the fact that none of the "online translators" is context sensitive enough to produce proper results out of the great variety of possible "German text flows."

Best wishes from Germany,
Vera (Nagel)

Genealogical research - Transcriber of historic German script

I am fortunate in that I have a primitive understanding of German and my wife has a basic understanding. Between the three of us, Google, my wife and I, we are blundering through and getting an understanding of German genealogy.
