Godparent question

My ancestors come from a small town near Hannover city. I have Schubert's book of marriage records for this area and surrounding areas.

What I would like to know is: Is there a certain age a young woman must be in order to be named as one of the godparents?

I have found a record for this female in a marriage record in Dec 1734 and the child who is her godchild was born in June of 1734. They both have the same last name.....can I assume she is a relative....like an aunt?

Hi,

I can only say what the rules are in the prostestant church today. You can be a Godfahter or Godmother after the confirmation, that means when you are about 14/15 years old.
