Gode Family

Hi Marlene,

unfortunately nearly all of the old passenger lists were destroyed. Therefore I only wail on the information if Alma Gode really was born in Oldenburg. Than I can take her with her family to our page.

Best regards,

Gunter

Hi Gunter,

My older great Aunt Auguste Hermine Christine Gode was born in Oldenburg on
14 Oct 1852. The next sister is the subject Alma Gode who departed for
America and she was born on 08 Nov 1854 but I have do not have in my records
where she is born. The sister following Alma is my great grandmother
Franziska Friederike Elizabeth Gode who was born on 2.5.1856 in Oldenburg,
resident Lange Street 63, daughter of the Backermeisters Johann Gustav Gode
and his wife Wilhelmine Louise, Janssen, both resident in Oldenburg.

Since both sisters either side of Alma Gode are born in Oldenburg, it would
be fairly certain that Alma was also. I am still waiting for my US cousins
to check this information. Would someone else on this list have access to
the Oldenburg records and be able to check for Alma Gode's birth on 8 Nov
1854?

Best Wishes

Marlene

Hello Marlene,
in a history book about old buildings I found a picture of the house, taken 1870 and this notice:

Today Lange Strasse number 59 was former number 66 (not 63):
- 1851 bougth Bcker Johann Gustav Gode und Ehefrau Louise geb. Janssen
- 1878 owner the children
- 1879 sold to painter Friedrich Wilhelm Adels
- 1880 new build by Johann Heinrich Hoyer

I will send a copy of the picture directly.
Regards,
Werner Honkomp

Hullo Werner,

Thank you very much for the photo that is fantastic. I did visit Oldenburg
and walked up and down wondering where their house might have been. I also
have a letter from the archives stating that at one time some family members
also lived at number 51. Would the old number 51 be in your book also? I
had two letters from Oldenburg State Archives, one mentioning Lange Strasse
63 and another mentioning Lange Strasse 51.

I will send them to you separately.

Kind Regards

Marlene
