I found some new informations about the Gerjes family and put it to out database. Now you can find there the relation between Gustav and his uncle Georg Heinrich and also the cahnge from the family name Gerriets to Gerjes. I hope this will help your relatives in Texas.

2003 in which it says Gustav Gerjes (his mother was Auguste Gode Gerjes)
went to Texas with his Aunt, Alma Gode/Espey and her husband Franz Julius
Espey. It is believed Gustav's parents had died and Alma took her 14 year
old nephew to the USA when she and her husband moved back to Texas after
about 4 years in Germany.
Are you able to find information when Alma Gode/Espey (either late 1872 or
early 1873) and her husband left Germany to immigrate to America so that
they can be added to your website? I think my American cousins only have
the information on when they arrived in New Orleans/Louisana.
