Given name Lizetta

Hello all,

I'm wondering if someone can give me some history
of the use of the given name Lizetta in mid-19th
century Germany. I've heard it is a diminutive
of Elizabeth, is this true? I have an ancestor
who went by Lizetta, she had an older sister who
went by Elizabeth and they have an aunt who is
found in some records as Elizabeth and some
records as Lizetta (more often Lizetta). I
believe the family was from the Osnabrück area
although the aunt may have originally been from
Holland. This family is a brick wall for me so
I'm trying to understand any detail for clues.

Thank you,

Joel

Joel,
the name as you've spelled seems to be the americanized version of the
German name "Lisette".
It could be a name by itself or a derivative of Elisabeth.
There were many variations and abbreviations of the name "Elisabeth" (with
an "s" in German!)
Elise,
Liesel,
Lieschen,
and more, I am sure.
