By the way, is there any list about those newspapers and are there any
others preserved. I am
thinking of the Southern States, Natchez in detail.
Are there any books about the language situation of immigrants? Did they
keep their German and
how long? Where there German schools? Did they form groups?
Those things probably differed a lot but there might be investigations
anyway.
Wondering

May be this book help:
The German people of New Orleans by John F. Nau, 1850 - 1900
Published by: USM Publication & Printing Services, Box 5085, Hattiesburg, MS 3940
There was an Anzieger published in Louisville Kentucky. My gggrandfather b.
1828 in Oberbetschdorf emmigrated 1847, went to Louisville 1849 and at the
time of his death in 1879 still spoke German. His will was filed in German
and had to be translated to English upon his death. I also know that many of
his children still spoke German up until the early 1900's.

Great, thank you very much Werner.
Some more ideas about this area?
