German Help Needed

German Translation .. and address needed:

I recently found a book about German Emigration .. it concentrated in what is now Niedersachsen. (Sorry -- I only copied from surname HEL to HILM). It was in the FHL in Salt Lake City. It listed the document numbers for

Kreisarchiv Uelzen

and

Museumsverein Kartei "von der Ohe"

... can anyone tell me what this means and were to write for the documents?

Thank you in advance

Hello Bonita,

German Translation .. and address needed:
Kreisarchiv Uelzen

This means "Archive of the county of Uelzen"
They have a web page for the archiv (german only):
http://www.landkreis-uelzen.de/wwwuel.nsf/ee26a38ba49337fb4125691900447c98/e2c10a1bfd45c3bc4125690d0052438f?OpenDocument

Their postal address is:

Landkreis Uelzen
Schul- und Kulturamt
z.Hd. Herrn Rindfleisch
Veerer Strae (or just write "Veersser Strasse")
29525 Uelzen
Germany/Deutschland

For further information you may call
Mr. Rindfleisch, Phone: +49-581-82-166, Telefax: +49-581-82-445

Museumsverein Kartei "von der Ohe"

This seems to be an uncomplete entry, therefore I can only guess the
meaning:
"Museumsverein" means "Society of a museum". These people are mostly
helping the museum in collecting money etc. sometimes the people in
the society even own the museum.

"Kartei" is "card index". "von der Ohne" is a Surname.

So probably it means that a person named von der Ohe provided a card
index to a subject, and this card index is hold by the
"Museumsverein". So this index can be found and maybe searched at the
museum.

For further information you need to provide a City and the name of the
museum. Since LDS FHL catalog is online, maybe you can show us the
entry you are looking at.

Juergen:

Thank you very much. This does clear things up alot. The information is
only about German Emigration from the Niedersachsen and may be only Kreis
Uelzen ... as the only archive I see mentioned is Uelzen.
After the mention of the museum it only gies a card number like
"1870/SUD018" .. I suspect this is by the year of emigration, village or
area where the emigrants resided prior to emigration .. and a sequence
number.

Maybe if I write to the Archive and mention it to them, they may know where
the file is listed .. and what it contains.
