Beware of people posing as would be genealogist who are only after your
money, they insist that they want deposits upfront and once you part with
your money then who knows. Who can trust testimonials on websites?.
Other professional genealogists will upon completion of the research, send
you a brief summary of the results and only[image:

expected to send funds
In January 2014 I had contacted a German genealogist to carry out research;
he agreed to do the work saying
"
*I have perhaps another client for....... but it will take perhaps some
days to give you a final answer. If I invest only some short time period to
find the birth entry for ......... in Freistett and perhaps the marriage
entry for the parents and/or one of their birth entries then I would offer
you this for Euro....this includes then also one or two copies, which you
will get attached as PDF by email....." *
I had been eagerly waiting and emailing him regularly but then on the 5
August 2014, I received the following email.
*I wil be in Karlsruhe on August 12 for a client. I'm not really convinced
that you want to payme for my work. That's the problem I have. At this
moment I'm not in Freiburg and have no access to our email corrspondence.
We have talking about a small amount of moneyo do the one check of your
ancestorr. Again: I have your papers not with me and I have my offer to you
not in mind but if Wwe invest only haf anhour or so then please lete me
know. To be honest: My feeling was that you don't want to invt too much
money. But without a special amount per hour I' m not wiling to do the job.
And if I go for another client to Karlsruhe for one day and I expect an
advanced payment fro you. I have not so good experiences with clients in
such cases. That's my problem or if you ant to see this in another way my
prejudice. Anywhay - my offer I do not knoe at this moment because I have
my paer not with me.*
*If for ou all is clear than make a wire trasnfer but id there ar open
questions please infrom me by email. I'm in Bavaria till August 9 and will
start already to agin on August 11.*
I must say that I am very disappointed at this show of very unprofessional
behaviour.
