Just a warning about introducing "free" on line software into your computer. My firewall quarantines all incoming executable code and then examines it. It went bonkers on the winsite.com URL. The fact that my firewall didn't like that site doesn't mean there is a virus, worm or spy ware at that URL. It means that certain criteria occurred which set off warnings, such as the URL trying to access my computer.
I am a MAC user so it's pretty simple for me. I cannot believe that
there is not a way on any modern computer to access the various markings
without downloading software. When I was a working librarian (pre 2001), we
had PCs that would convert to those markings. I don't remember how any
more. Look around and find "keyboard" or some such and I'll bet those
directions are there.
There is no need to download software (although some softward can be much simpler). I think that accessing the character set in "Windows" and keeping it in a background window it the best for most users.
On my old Windows 98, it is this simple: Hold down the Alt key and hit 132
and you get: . Again the Alt key and
148 = . Alt and 129 = . For Capitals, Alt and 142 = , Alt and 153 = ,
Alt and 154 = . Alt and 225 = .
