My great grandfather, Friedrich GERKEN from Jever and his family-
wife, Helene nee Drantmann, and
children Hugo, Bernhard, Helene, Fritz, and Alida,
(Helene married John BITTER and Alida married Martin HINRICHS.)
and his brother Heinrich GERKEN from Jever and his family-
wife, Catharina nee JANSSEN, and
children Hermann and Emma
(Emma married Guy CHRISTIE).
The two families left Bremen on the "Hapsburg" and arrived at Baltimore, Maryland, USA on May 7, 1884 after a two week journey. They went directly to the Sterling- Rock Falls Area of Whiteside County, Illinois.
