Hi!
Hannover to St. Louis? Ayuh! Scot's and Germans settled together in many
counties in Illinois. Scots generally came first and Germans came very soon
after (they didn't follow the Scots, it was just the way the migration went).
Clinton County IL has many Scots and English settling before statehood,
followed quickly by Germans.
Btw .. pernicious anemia (nasty disease) was incurable before the early
1900's and was genetic in people from northern European countries (i.e.
Germans).
As far as I know (I'm O negative, btw) .. there is no genetic counterpart to
bloodtype other than the biologic passing of a recessive gene. In other
words, O- can occur in any "racial" group.
Pernicious anemia, on the other hand was almost exclusively confined to the
Germanic "races". There are a very limited number of people who suffer from
it today (it's basically been "bred out" and those who do can be easily
treated). It is a good road map for looking at things in a genealogy sense as
it is inherited, but it does tend to skip generations in no apparent pattern.
