1. I would like to see some information regarding Maritime Hire lists in Bremen, ship sailing schedules and destinations. Ship wrecks. Captains and crew lists if anything like that is available.and ships from Germany in general from the 1830's--1860's. Possibly there are archives that survived, thinking hopefully.
Or maybe you could direct me to a link for the above. My ggrandfather,Gerhard Johnn Ehlers (1826) was a sailor from Emden. his father a helmsman a who married the Skipper's oldest daughter per Emden birth records.
Family lore was he and others, jumped ship in San Francisco during the gold rush years. His intent to be naturalized certificate (1854) survived the years , and naturalized in 1858 ,all Sierra County, CA ; however, he did obtain a one year 1858 passport (have copy) from Emden to continue sailing, returning later to US with his sister that year on Nord America. thus he was playing all the angles., Family lore was his parents drowned in a sea accident and he was left to care for a younger sister.
I'm certainly dreaming to think anything like "hirelists " would have survived.
2. Any articles on german childrens education in the 1800's

Nice things for the GenWiki. Does anybody has input for this?
our list is just about 6 weeks old and our membership already passed
the 250 mark !!
There is a huge mountain ahead of us to be conquered, but I would say
that this is a great success, meaning that a mailinglist with this
topic was really needed.
However, only a disappointing 10 of them started with some kind of a
personal
Page.. Telling me, that there is not too much interest in this topic.
I'm really trying hard to get something going and I NEED YOUR INPUT
in telling me WHAT you want....
We have sooo much ground to cover and it wouldn't make much sense
to waste our time for things which are not of interest to anyone..
PLEASE do NOT hesitate and speak up and let me know what your interests
are, but ALWAYS consider that you have to do your "groundwork" first.
And only then, we will be able to continue on our " virtual" trip to good
ol' Germany..
I'm having trouble with the password too. I'm on the Neumark and Brandenburg lists, but can't log in using that username and password, so have filled out the data to open an account and am told to expect a confirmation e-mail.
I got interested in genealogy after my first and so far only visit to Germany about three years ago. My home is in the U.S. but I live overseas in the Philippines. Nearly all of my research has been done online. More than anyone wants to know about my ancestors can be found at my webpage http://members.surfshop.net.ph/~klfcel/ , and, if that isn't enough, the guestbook on that page will take readers directly to my blog at http://pinnacled.blogspot.com .
