Hi friends,
heres something very imtortant, a link to find
literatur in german genealogial magazins, youll never
find anywhere else.
Unfortuatly this site is not availeble in english,
but it might be clear anyway:
For example:
Hello Klaus,
I took your advice and tried this site. Under "UND Personen und Autoren" I
typed in "Wegener" and received 10 "hits". Each time I clicked on "Nachste
Seite de Ergebnismenge" I would get 10 more "hits". Now what do I do?? How
do I learn if any of these "hits" contain information on my Wegener family?

Hi friends,
this site:
http://www.subito-doc.de/
may be a further information, it is in english too.

Carol,
I just read the name WEGENER in the mails.
May I ask where the ones you are looking for came from?
I have some ancestors near Oschersleben/Magdeburg (Hornhausen to be precise)
with that name but they popped up around 1850 in that village. So far I
couldn't find a hint where they came from.
Best regards
Ralf

Hello Ralf,
You have just asked me the "64 thousand dollar question". I do not know
exactly where my WEGENER family came from.
I have two brothers who immigrated to America -
William August Theodore, born 21 Aug 1841/2 in "Prussia" (according to US
census), immigrated with his mother in 1866.
Frederick William, born 29 October 1849 in "Germany", immigrated in 1868.
When they got their Naturalizations, William denounced allegiance in 1869 to
the "King of Prussia", and Frederick denounced allegiance in 1876 to the
"Emp of Germany".
The only other "clue" I have is "family lore" which says their father,
Ludwig Wegener, was a Brgermeister in a "suburb of Berlin". I'm guessing
that the father died in Germany before they immigrated, because I find no
record of him in America. And, the only record I can find of the mother,
Marie Dorothe (Reichert) Wegener (beyond the passenger list), is her death
on 13 February 1877, and her burial in the Family Lot at Woodland Cemetery
in Newark, New Jersey. Her age at death was 69 years 8 months 5 days, which
would put her birth about 8 June 1808 (if I have figured correctly).
I would say that Sachsen-Anhalt would be a good area for me to search.
Maybe Magdeburg would have been considered a "suburb" of Berlin at some
point in time?
What information can you share about your Wegener ancestors? Do any of my
names above seem to "connect" with your ancestors?
Best regards,
