Why is there so much redundancy in the messages here? The same thing gets repeated over and over so many times. The amount of space occupied if they are saved is huge! Sandy
Well, Sandy,
that's the problem with mailinglists...
We are a very young one and just hit the 250 member mark.
If one comes up with a new topic which is of interest to most
of our members, then you will get a lot of replies and just about
everyone will voice her/ his opinion...
But what's wrong with it ? That's what mailinglists are for..
But when we reply to messages we should watch the "Subject" line
and change it, if it's not appropriate anymore..
It's also very important to cut-off the "rat-tail" and delete all the text
which
is not needed anymore and in your case, it would have been much better
if you hadn't quoted the whole "Genealogy.net-users-en Digest"...
This occupied quite a lot of space... ;-))
Sorry, but I decided "NOT" to cut-off the "rat-tail" to show you what I
really mean...
just see below....
You all have a nice evening,
Wolf
Hello,
one can give like ten short hints, with quoting the question and giving an answer compared to this two very long full quotes!
As long as people don't quote meaningful, no one should talk about "the amount of space occupied", but rather give them hints bilateral about quoting etc.
Of course it is preferable that questioners first try to "ask google" and the archiv of this mailinglist. [1]
Also everyone could reread the topic of this list:
"List for questions around the usage of services under genealogy.net domains"
Now you can hate me, but my opinion is, that the purpose should be more on our focus. I read more messages about "translating requests", "search stuff" than about "I have tried to use wiki-en and got into trouble".
