Hello
I am new at this but her goes. I found 4 years ago our Mack ancesters in
Laichingen, Werttemberg, east of Ulm. We have been there two times. Now I am
looking for the Klingners in Germany. Here is what I have.
Karl Ferdinand Klingner (in the states he changed the first letter to C)
Carl
B: 3/16/1854
D: 12-1923 in St. Paul Minn
M: Louisa Lorch in Bronx N.Y. 1888 from Switzerland
Immigrated and arrival date 8 - 21 - 1882 with brother Wilhelm B: 1864
Departure : Bremen to N.Y.
Age 28
Ship - Main
Point of Origin - Prussia (PrueBen) I think this is the same
Passenger List 1851 - 1891
Naturalized - 1898
Children --- August C. -- Emma -- Carl Herman -- :Louisa -- Otto
One section in Germany named the first son after his father, so maybe Karls
father is August. I cannot find him or town.
Wilma
Hello Wilma,
Prussia and Preussen (PreuBen) is the same - but 1882 it includes lots of
today Germany and parts of Poland East-and West-Prussia, als well as Posen,
parts of Saxonia, Westfalia, Rhineland and past the peace 1866 also
Hannover.
Today phonebook has 679 Klingner all over Germany, maybe most of them in the
districts with ZIP-Code beginning with 0.... but that does not really help.
Where do you want to look ?
Chemnitz - 09..., Leipzig 04..., Jena 07..., Dresden 01... - sorry but this
reagion did not belong to Prussia. (I did not look for the other)
I think you will have to find a bit more information then Prussia.
Look into Census, Immigration-Papers into the Marriage or Death Certificate,
old letters, Bible or what ever - you have to find a town or village before
starting research in Germany.
And are you sure that he changed Karl to Carl ?? There are still today Carl
in Germany.
Greetings
Christine

Maybe it helps to compare two maps:
go down to chapter: "Imperial Prussia"
There is a map: File:Prussiamap.gif - Wikipedia
Keep or print it.
Then go to Geogen Deutschland (Onlinedienst) - christoph.stoepel.net
enter "Klinger" and press behind the box on "Kartieren".
Then click on "english" of "Relative Darstellung für Klingner (english)"
and take that map to compare it with the first one.
Regards,
Eric (Dudler)
