My ancestor, August F. Oeser arrived, in the US from Bremen in 1855 aboard
the Mimi with his wife and children. The place of origin has ink spilled over
it, appears to be Melzen. Apparently there is no such place. He brought to
the US his wife Wilhemina and sons Ernest Louie born 1848 and Emil born 1853
and daughters Ada born 1847 and Augusta born 1851. Lived out his life on a
farm near Nashville. Most census records for him and family show birthplace
as Saxony.
He was naturalized in Nashville, TN in 1861, saying he arrived in 1850 so he
may have come over and went back for the family. He states he is aged thirty
six, a native of Germany, renounces allegience to George Albert, and that
he was born in county of Lazrent on 23 May 1823. Again there is apparently no
such place. I assume he was misunderstood by whomever was writing the
information down. Just hoping someone out there knows something the Oeser family.

Some suggestions:
There is a Merzen north of Bramsche and Osnabruck in lower Saxony. ???
There is Meiszen (Meissen) in Saxony ??? When I imagine the old way of
spelling (writing) the "high S" could be seen as a "l" and then comes the
"z" ???
(A researcher used to the old script would have to see the original paper -
or a copy)
In Metasuche (Metasearch) there are Oeser in Saxony (Leipzig,
Hermannsdorf, Johanngeorgenstadt)
In the phonebook there are 1039 Oeser all over Germany - maybe most of them
in Saxony - but I did not look all.
For Lazrent I don`t have a idea.
I?m no specialist for Saxony - but I think Wolf Zscheile is - sorry but at
the moment I don`t have the right link for the saxony roots Forum.

Hi,

With Geogen its easy to see the distribution ..
We wrote about Geogen in older emails already. Please check the archive!
The "relative map" shows most Oeser in Landkreis Annaberg (county Annaberg).
This supports your assumption that your August Oeser is from Saxony. Of
course it is just a hint and must not be the truth.
Maybe first you should scan your document with the "Melzen". Put it
online to wiki-en to http://wiki-en.genealogy.net/wiki/Reading_Help
