Hi Bob,
Frank Wedekind was a German author, see here:
His father had lived in the USA where he fled after the 1848 Revolution in Germany
he made a lot of money there with dealing in land purchase and sale, also married
rich, the daughter of the man who invented the matches.
The title of the book is translated 'The Philosopher's Stone' which if you look it up
on the net, Google or similar, will many times come up as the Harry Potter story, but
it is originally the title of the book you have there.
'Lulu' is another of his theatre plays.
This is all that comes to mind in a hurry.
Bye for now
Ingrid
Hi Ingrid,
Thanks for the information. Interesting for sure. As I said I found the book doing a search for ARMBRUST.
I hope all is well with you.
Bob
Hello again Bob,
yes well, I get it now, must have been a bit slow this morning. Of course Armbrust,
the mentioned play by Frank Wedekind has a subtitle 'Laute, Armbrust und Peitsche'
meaning "Lute (old musical instrument) crossbow and whip"
The plays Frank Wedekind wrote must have caused disturbances in his time, as they
are even now hard to stomach. I only once saw 'Lulu' in the theatre, and while I am
not easily shocked, I found it quite filthy.
Anyway your ancestor or whoever bought the book must have done so in the hope to find out
more about the name Armbruster, not out of an interest for Frank Wedekind I suppose.
Yes all is well here - will be in touch with you privately soon.
Bye for now
Ingrid
Hi again Ingrid,
OH ! I had no idea. Oh well. No, nobody that I know bought the book, I came upon it online at an archive website. I couldn't read it so I thought I'd inquire.
Thanks,
Bob
