My short answer is an emphatic NO - for several reasons, the most important
being the way Facebook routinely bends and changes its own rules around
privacy and user data collection. In Canada and the US we don't have the
same 'protection' as European countries.
Secondly, FB is designed as a social networking environment, not as an
archival resource that is more appropriate to genealogy research.
I like the lists. They are very helpful and I monitor them regularly.
I agree with Bobbi and others and say NO to facebook.
I did miss and search for the forum after my selfimposed
abstinence from all computer connections for a while.
The forum was great and I would certainly volunteer to make daily use of it
with possible advise to others.
The only disadvantage the forum had was that most people did not recognise
the meaning of this medium for a lively exchange of thoughts and ideas, even
some chit chat. Most usersdid put in a question, got their answers if at all
possible, and were never heard of again. Sometimes not even a thank you.
If we could make it known more to 'root seekers' in the US, and others (more
often than not seniors) interested in genealogy I would reanimate the forum,
Wolf.
