Can you help�me find the�village of ancestry�(Posen, Baerwalde, Neustettin, Stettin, Eberswalde?)of my grandmother and possibly great grandparents?� I have been searching for many long years�

Grandmother,��Pauline Emilie GEHRKE, born 2�Oct 1871, (unknown location) who came to�New York�on the ship,�"Waesland", on 15 May 1890 with last home listed as Sellnow. (A search of Kreise Arnswalde, Kolberg and Lauenberg didn't help me.)� A Christening record shows a Paulina GEHRKE christened 4 Feb. 1872, Lobsens, Posen, Prussen, unknown if this is the same person.

Her family:� Father:� Wilhelm Johann GEHRKE, son of J. GEHRKE,�born 21 Feb. 1835, (unknown location), sailed from Stettin, Germany 11 Aug 1890�on ship "Polynesia" with wife Emilie born GERSTMANN (7 May, 1842 in Stargard).�(Family�tradition states that his first wife, and possibly Pauline(a)'s mother was someone with surname like Schreckenberg ? ?, so Emilie GERSTMANN might be the step-mother.� All are evengelisch.

������������ Louisa (Elise)�GEHRKE 26 Jan 1876 (unknown place) sailed with father and mother on "Polynesia" 11 Aug 1890.
������������ Martha Maria Auguste GEHRKE 14 Feb 1879 possibly Stettin, sailed with father and mother on "Polynesia" same dates.

As far as genealogical information is concerned you should contact the
Pomerania List at pommern-l at genealogy.net . However, I can give you a few
hints as to the places you have listed in your mail. Most of them are in
that part of the former Prussian Province of Pomerania (Pommern) that is now
part of Poland. These are:

B�RWALDE (Baerwalde); today's Polish name: Barwice. Formerly in the County
of Neustettin, about 15 miles northwest of the county seat Neustettin.

NEUSTETTIN; today's name: Szczecinek. Formerly county seat, about 100 miles
northeast of the provincial capital of Stettin.

SELLNOW; today's name: Zieleniewo. Village in the former County of
Kolberg-K�slin; about 4 miles southwest of the county seat of Kolberg
(today's name: Kolobrzeg) on the Baltic Sea.

STETTIN; today's name: Szczecin. Formerly the capital of the Prussian
Province of Pomerania on the Oder River; about 70 miles northeast of Berlin.

In the Prussian Province of Brandenburg, today German State of Brandenburg:

EBERSWALDE; about 15 miles northeast of Berlin (not a suburb of Berlin).

In the Prussian Province of Posen; since 1920 in Poland:

POSEN; Prussian provincial capital about 150 miles east of Berlin; Polish
name: Poznan.

In your local library you can probably find Goode's World Atlas which
contains a (rough) map of Central Europe. Besides Berlin, the map shows
Eberswalde, Kolobrzeg (Kolberg), Szczecinek (Neustettin), Poznan (Posen) and
Szczecin (Stettin).

Perhaps you would also like to get in contact with the Wisconsin open air
museum of Pomeranian settlers' farm houses and ask them if they can provide
further information.

Hallo Donna, ich kann leider auch kein Englisch, aber meine Enkel helfen
mir,
die Gehrke stammen teilweise aus den Neust. Zeitungen,
ich sehe keine M�glichkeit, Deinen Albert Gehrke zu finden,
2 fand ich in Westpreu�en, siehe Anhang, IMG ist auch Stettin,
weitere Anh�nge folgen noch,

ein Tagel�hner war nicht bei dem Bauern fest angestellt, er wurde
t�glich bezahlt,
Linde war ein Gutshof in dem Ort Linde Kr. Neustettin,
ich wei� nicht wie der Ort jetzt auf polnisch hei�t, B�rwalde hei�t
jetzt Barwice,
der Schneider Gehrke lebte um 1863 in Scharpenort,
