Gansberg

I am seeking information --- or a path to information --- on the birth, parents, siblings of Johann Heinrich Friedrich "Fritz" GANSBERG through birth, marriage, death, census and any other records.

He was born in Bremen or Hannover ...... born in October 1849, according to the USA Federal Census and his death record. He worked as a waiter and later owned several taverns in Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey, USA.

According to family lore, he was a draft-dodger, running from the army draft before or after Prussia took over Hannover.

I have been unable to find him on any ship's passenger lists or immigration records..

He first appeared in the City Directory of Jersey City, New Jersey, in 1881 after marrying

for the second time and having a third child.

He does not appear in the USA Census until the 1900 Federal Census, but had five children in the USA between 1872 and 1885. I cannot locate birth records or mother's name in the USA for the first two children, but those two sons always listed Jersey City, NJ, as their birthplace.

He may have had a sister named DORA who lived in New York City.

Is this surname Swedish or Norwegian? Was it brought to Hannover during the Swedish occupation of the Kingdom?

Hi Maureen:

Sorry I have not returned your e-mail earlier.

If you can send me a mailing address, I will copy from the 1852 census,
all of Anderten, which includes all of the Neddermeyers in AMT Hoya
(kind of a township). It will include the names of many others who
moved from Anderten to the Charter Oak area. Spicifically many of them
attended the old church at Rickets. I think it is St Paul's of
Hannover Township. That church has records for many of the people who
move from Anderten. Summaries of events at this church are on line,
but the original documents have more information. Also, the Lutheran
church in Denison has many of the church records for the area, as the
same paster (P. G. Haar) officiated at many of the Lutheran churches
   in central Crawford County.

   Crawford County, Iowa, Churches

I will also copy 5 pages from the town of Hassbergen which include all
of the Gansbergs listed in the 1852 census for AMT Hoya. I am
surprised that there are no Gansbergs in the town of Gansbergen.

Hello Maureen,

Put into form: Nachname: [Gansberg]
an you´l find a lot of GANSBERGs and it might be
interesting to find some GANSBERG conectet to yours.

Greetings from Germany

Hi Maureen - Klaus:

Sorry about my slow response to your 9-10-15 posting. What happened was
that Klaus Vahlbruch had posted in response to your posting about the
Gansberg family and recommended that you use:
http://meta.genealogy.net/. I tried meta and inserted the Bösche name
and Hoya for location. My Grandfather's home town was Anderten in Hoya.
The result was a number of Bösche names and, all listed as war
casualties, some wounded and some who died in the WW. What hit me hard
was that my father served in the U.S. army in the war particularly in
the last big push In the WW. I lost my composure and it has taken a
while to get back to the list.

Klaus: Thanks for the suggestion to use Meta.

Maureen, you can send your address directly to my e-mail address (clear
the (To) line and use Gale@Bosche.Info. If you prefer my mailing
address, I can send it to you. In the meantime, I will try to send the
info to you electronically, but I usually have to relearn the formatting
procedures and time flies by.

There are Gandsbergs's in: Gandsberg (Sophie age 20), (Ludwig age31,
Dorothee (Radecke) 33, Friedrich age 4.

In Hassbergen there are three families: Diederich age 66, Amalia age 64,
Diederich age 37 and Dorothea age26. Heinrich age 33, Lisette age 33,
Dorothea age 6 and Heinrich age 1. Friederich age 41, Gorgine age 31,
Heinrich age 4, Dorothea age 3 and Sofhia age 0. They are on only 5
different pages.

The records I consider more accurate, the birth records of his three children with his second wife, list his full name and his birthplace as Hannover. I located three Friedrich GANSBERGS aged two or three in Amt Hoya in the German 1851 Census. Is any one of them my great-grandfather? > How do I tell without a birth record to know parents' names? > How can I locate birth records? I have USA info of a Gansberg family from the Neinbu
rg area
but have been unable to secure any records from there after writing several times. I would appreciate deeply any advice or direction. I am 79 years old and have not much time left, and have been looking for 17 years to uncover Fritz's well-hidden secrets. Thank you gratefully in advance for any ideas or information or relatives that you may know or have! Maureen
