I have subscribed to the 14 days free trial membership at Ancestry.com.
Through searching the Census data I hope to find my g-g-grandfather Johann Gottfried LEMKE, born 1861 in LETHENEN, Kr. Labiau., E. PR.
He is believed to have left his family some time after the birth of my g-grandmother 1887 and emigrated to the US (without being divorced?) - probably via Bremen.
(His wife remarried in Nuremberg)
Now I found one JOHN LEMKE and several FRED LEMKEs. One with matching age living in Chicago in 1920.
My question is: Would Americans consider the names Gottfried and Fred identical?
Is there any possibility to find any more data of that suspect FRED?
