Hello Listers -
I am wondering if I could ask for a little help for a distant cousin. She
is searching for the Mankedick line from the Minden area. A group of our
ancestors came to Pittsburgh from Minden. I am wondering if anyone else has
come across this surname - it is possible that the spelling has been
altered.but I doubt it. Any help you can provide would be greatly
appreciated.
Rod
No luck on your inquiry, but do you have Kitten's in your line? We have a lot of Fleck's.
Gina
Hi Gina -
Thanks for the help. Actually, the German side of my family is my mom's
lines...my father's side is Norwegian and the Fleck name actually in Norway
is Flaek and somewhere along the way it became Fleck.
We have living cats, but no Kittens! Nor any ancestors with that as a
surname.
Thanks again - Rod
Hello Rod,
Is Minden the one in Westfalen or Rheinland? I don't find Minden in
the Hannover area. It could be a very small place that is not on the maps.
The LDS has church records (and other items) from Minden in both Westfalen
and also from Rheinland. The Minden in Westfalen is very near the border of
the Kingdom of Hannover, I believe.
The German phonebook shows no Mankedicks in Germany. They must have
all emigrated or the name is spelled differently there.
Barbara
I am sorry I should have said the Westfalen region...however, we have seen
this entire family reference Minden as the source of origin for the lines.
They lived within 20 miles of the City. Thank you for looking in the books
for me.
