From Admin: Hannover-L mailing list quits on 2021-09-15

[Eine deutsche Nachricht folgt in einigen Minuten]
Dear list members,

Hannover-L mailing list will quit an September 15th in the current way of working. The list will be replaced by a category in a forum software named "discourse". The software is only available in German language.

This change has been announced to all list members in a message in this message: "[HN] Wichtig: Umstellung bei der Mailingliste" by Helga Scabell <helga@scabell.de> sent on September 7th, at 3 p.m. European summer time.

Now there are two options for each list member:
1) switch to the discourse platform (and subscribe to the category Hannover-L)
2) do nothing and you'll not receive any emails from this list after September 15th

All messages in the Hannover category on the discourse platform can be red without subscription: <https://discourse.genealogy.net/c/hannover-l/>

If you'd like to receive seperate messages as email, you need to log in into the platform and adjust some settings in your profile.

In order to send messages to the category, please use this email address (same as before): <Hannover-L@genealogy.net> I'm not sure whether your email address needs to be verified previously. You may just try it out.

Some frequently asked questions are answered on this web page (German language)
<http://wiki-de.genealogy.net/Discourse_Häufig_gestellte_Fragen_und_Antworten_(FAQ)>

I cannot really help you with any problem that my arise during the transition to the discourse software. E.g. with log in or with subsciption of categories because I somehow managed to get the right settings, but I don't remember the way and how to do it. Maybe other list members have a better knowlegde.

Some private words:
Being one of three admins of Hannover-L mailing list since 20 years now, I'll quit my job as admin as well on September 15th. I'd like to say a big "Thank you!" to all the polite and knowledgeable list members that made the list such a wonderful pool of knowledge and help for genealogy in the former Kingdom of Hannover and surrounding areas.

Maybe we will see some of you again in the categories of discourse. <https://discourse.genealogy.net/c/hannover-l/>

Kind regards

Juergen (Drees)
former Admin of Hannover-L mailing list

Juergen,
Thank you for all you have done over the last 20 years. It has been very helpful.

Hi Juergen:

Thanks for all the work you have done on the Hannover list. I probably would never have obtained extensive information about my Grandfathers family and hometown (Anderten Hoya) if not for this list. Back in about 2002 I received a response to my queries from Jens Muller-Koppe. The 1852 census was very detailed and provided information about several other families who followed my Grandfather to the same town in Iowa.

Once again THANK YOU VERY MUCH Juergen.

Best of luck in any future endeavors you may pursue .
