Frederick Hermann Heinrich Schultze

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post. I am looking for information on my great great
grandfather Frederick Hermann Heinrich Schulze who migrated from Einbeck,
Hannover in 1850 with his wife Maria nee Simon (or Seeman). They arrived in
Adelaide, South Australia on 13th August 1850 aboard the ship the Leotine
which departed from Bremen on 10th May 1850. We think that Maria was
Frederick's 3rd wife but have no proof of this. She must have been pregnant
when they left, as a child was born on the voyage whom they named Leotina.

Frederick appears to have been a naturalist or an apothecary.

From the death certificates, I have estimated that Frederick was born in c

1804 while Maria was born c 1824.

Can anyone direct me as to how to find marriage and birth records or
anything else that may be relevant?

Thank you,

Elaine Palmer

Hello Elaine,

As no one has replied I have listed below some of the research you can do,

Firstly you can check http://aidaonline.niedersachsen.de/

see if your Schulze family is mentioned as migrating to South Australia, should you find him you can order his file. Just enter Schulze in the box provided, this file should confirm his birth place.

However as you did not give your ancestor's religion, I have only checked the Einbeck Evangelisch-Lutherische details. You said your ancestor arrived per the "Leotine" in 1850. The copy of the passenger list I have seen states that F C Schulze & family arrived on that voyage, was Frederick a son ? Did any of the family members become naturalized in Australia? You need to be sure of this families origins before you begin your research in Germany.

You will find a list of parish registers of the Evangelisch-Lutherische Landeskirche Hannover at
<http://www.hist.de/KB-hannover.htm>http://www.hist.de/KB-hannover.htm

On the opening page you will see "Sprengel (area) Göttingen", scroll down until you see Church district Einbeck click on this, another page will open giving the details for each parish, these are alphabetically listed for that district. Einbeck parishes Baptisms/ Marriages/ Burials /confirmations from 1649- .... including the years records are missing.

Most of parish registers prior to 1853 are on microfiche, I understand these are available in Hannover at the address below, however if you are unable to visit yourself it will be necessary to pay someone to carry out research on your behalf.

Kirchenbuchamt Hannover
Hildesheimer Str. 165/167
30173 Hannover
Germany

Perhaps you might like to write or fax the Pastor at the church: Ev.-luth. St. Jacobi Kirchengemeinde Einbeck/Markt,

Address:
Gemeindebüro u. Pfarramt,
Pastor Giering.
Gartenstr. 18
37574 Einbeck
Germany
Fax: from Australia 0011 49 05561-971525

<mailto:KG.Uchte@evlka.de>Ask Pastor Giering if he still has the church books, or if he knows of any Schulze descendants living in his parish that may be willing to help you with your research. If not could he to pass on your request to someone who can assist you with your research perhaps the local historian or family history society.

However most Pastors these days are too busy to carry out any free research on your behalf, especially if the church books have been filmed and are available on public access elsewhere.

Research fees apply in Germany and can be costly with bank charges etc. have you checked to see if anyone else in Germany has researched the Schulze family? FOKO for instance?

There are 17 people by the name of Schulze living in Einbeck, also 75 people living in Göttingen as listed in the German phone book. One of these families may be a descendant of your ancestors, it might be worth writing to some of them before you spend too much money on research. Although it is a common name you might get lucky. Please let me know if you want the addresses.

Unfortunately the LDS have not filmed much for Einbeck, you must be sure that this is the correct place of origin for your ancestors.

Keep your inquiries *very* brief if you expect a reply. Write in good English, provide your address/ fax etc. you will most likely receive a reply in German then ask one of the subscribers on this list to translate for you.

A picture of the Church is at

also suggest you e-mail the Bürgermeister der Stadt Einbeck
Herren Ulrich Minkner
E-Mail: <mailto:stadtverwaltung@einbeck.de>stadtverwaltung@einbeck.de

ask him if he can give you the name of the local historian as you wish to find more information about Frederick Hermann Heinrich Schulze's family and his occupation as a naturalist or an apothecary prior to his migration to South Australia in 1850.

It is always a good idea to check the list archives and you will find many hints on how to research records in Hannover.

Good luck,

Elizabeth
