My paternal Great-Grandfather was a combatant in the East Prussian army against the French in 1870/71. According to family legend, he was taken prisoner by the French, and had to walk back to East Prussia after his release.
I would like to be able to confirm that he had indeed been taken prisoner.
Does anyone know: - Did the French keep records of Prisoners of War?
- If so, where would one write for information?
