Foresters

Dear Terry,

You did not give a year for your Otto Oppermann,
So I have to guess that he was there before 1866 before Prussia took over.
But he would be a koeniglicher Foerster (Royal forester) nonetheless.
Until October of 1866 it would have been the blind king George V of Hannover
who ruled 1851-1866, before him, it was his father king Ernst August (1837 -
1851).
The Prussian kings were
Friedrich Wilhelm III. 16.Nov.1797-7.Jun.1840
Friedrich Wilhelm IV. 7.Jun.1840-2.Jan.1861
Wilhelm I. (9.Oct.1858) 2.Jan.1861-9.Mar.1888 (Kaiser/emperor since 1871)
Friedrich III. 9.Mar.1888-15.Jun.1888 (Kaiser/emperor)
Wilhelm II. 15.Jun.1888-9./28.Nov.1918 (Kaiser/emperor)

If you are able to wait for another fortnight I could look for Otto
Oppermann in the Barnstorf vital records.

Sincerely yours

Falk Liebezeit

Hello I have just joined the forum.

I recently discovered that my ancestral family came from Diephalz,
Hanover.
My 4x gt grandfather was a royal forester in Barnstorff, by the name of
Otto OPPERMAN.

I wondered if anyone might know to which royal household, he would have
been forester, and just what this meant.

Terry
