FLERLAGE/VAITMAN/VAIGHTMAN/FATMAN/VAGTMAN/HEMMEN in Loeningen

Steve,

I have reference to two Flerlages in the St. Vitus Church records from
Loeningen. As you may already be aware, this city has many emigrants to the
Cincinnati area, where you live.

1. Joannes Abel FLERLAGE [I do not have dates of any kind for him] was
married at St. Vitus to Anna Alheidis VAIGTMAN on 10 May 1760. She was
baptized 12 Jan 1739 in the small village of Farwick, just outside
Loeningen, the daughter of Gerard VAIGHTMAN and Maria Adelheid HEMMEN. Anna
died 4 years into the marriage, on 30 Jan 1765. I don't have a record of
children.

2. I also have a record from St. Vitus of Johan Abel FLERLAGE [no dates for
him, either] getting married at St. Vitus that same date, 10 May 1760, to
Anna VAITMAN, who was born in Neuenbonnen, another small village outside of
Loeningen. She was baptized 29 Jun 1730, and died 23 Feb 1796. Her
father's name at birth was Joannes Everhard FATMAN, though as each child was
born, the surname was spelled VAITMAN. He was born in Neuenbonnen in 1696,
and was married to Gesina HOPMAN, 1702-1747. [Johannes Everhard FATMAN's
parents had their surname spelled VAGTMAN in the church record books at St.
Vitus].

So, I have two Joannes or Johan Abel FLERLAGES getting married on the same
day to two women named Anna VAITMAN or VAIGHTMAN. Confusing I know! If you
find a connection, I would be interested in learning more.
