Hello,

My name is John Riddle and I would like to get a copy of my great grandmother's birth certificate. Her ship register from 1870 stated that she came from the province of Oldenburg and the 1880 census in the USA reported that she came from Brunswick Germany. She was born in 1850 and her name was Louisa Fleissner, this spelling may have been altered as some names were changed a little when immigrants arrived in the USA. Do you happen to know how I can go about getting a birth certificate for her? I was e-mailed this link by a friend in Germany who thought you might be able to help me. Thank you for your time.

I can tell you the following information that I have learned by reading and
research:
1. You need the state she lived in, (NY?)
2. There was no Ellis Island Entry Port prior to 1892.
3. The port might have been Castle Garden, New York (what port?)
4. Also, she could have come into other ports in other states along the east
coast of the USA.
