Hi Don,
I tried that URL, came up mostly in German. I put in the city of
Holstein, last name of Claussen
and year 1855, Male and town. No matchs found.

Hi Edith:
There are a lot of Claussen's on the site. Scroll down on the page and in the lower left corner you will find the language selection choice. In many cases, I am used to finding the language selection choice at the top, but there a number which give that choice at the bottom left.
My question is what year is included in this census. At the bottom of the page I see a reference to 1803. If that is true, the census might not be of much help. Sorry, I just found 11 years available from 1769 to 1881. 1855 has 21 Claussen's on the first page.

Hello Edith,
I need some clarification here. I see on your GenCircles site that
you have John Peter Claussen, born in Mullenbach Rheinland. And his wife
was born in Holstein (in Puls). And what you are looking for now is the
birthplace of the father called Peter Claussen. Should we not be looking in
Rheinland for the father if the son was born in there? The 1880 census
shows John Peter as born in Holstein. Now, I know very well that the census
can be wrong about birthplace, depending on who's answering the question.
(I've been working in England genealogy and I have found that in 3 different
census, a man was listed as born in a one place, but later said he was born
elsewhere!) That one listing is his actual birthplace!
Have you looked up other census records to be sure where John Peter
comes from?
Also, if the parents didn't emigrate, wouldn't the three children be a
little young to be emigrating alone in 1860? Perhaps they were with some
relatives. Just a thought.
