I am new to this list and am searching for my Gt. grandfather's parents.
Herman Felthaus b 10 Oct 1849 in possible Haselunne, Hannover. He immigrated
about 1870 to Evansville, Indiana, USA. I believe he had a sister Maria
Felthaus b abt 1836 and immigrated 1856 to New Orleans then to Evansville, IN.
She immigrated with a Margaret Wolff. in 1858 she married Gerhard Joseph
Plochg, son of Theodore and Margaret Wolf Plochg. I believe the Feldhaus, Plochgs
and Wolf families knew each other in Hannover.
Herman and Maria's parents may have been Martin Feldhaus and Gertrude Greati
or von Grote.
Does anyone have any information on these families?
Thank you all very much.
Judy Felthaus
Hi Judy,
Were your Feldhaus family ever in Cincinnati? From some Catholic
church records from Cincinnati that I have, there was a Wiliam Feldhaus
being a witness to a marriage in 1857.
I have done research in Haselünne in Germany at the Osnabrück Catholic
diocese archives. However, it was in an earlier time period (1772-1800). I
have only a few copies from there, but I don't see those names on what I
have. I ran short of time and was not able to finish my research there.
Check out this site if you have not yet done so:

There is a Feldhaus listed there who settled in St. Louis.
If your people were Evangelical Lutheran, the LDS have some church
records from Meppen for Haselunne in the 1800's. There is also a book on
emigrants from Haselunne, but you can't borrow books as you can the
microfilm. It is always possible that there are copies of the book at some
large city public libraries. See www.familysearch.org and go to Family
History Library Catalog.
My great great grandmother (Anna Josephina Book) was born in
Haselunne in 1800. The Book family is one of my brick walls.
